ANT and Dec appeared to have lost their American gamble last night — after their show Wanna Bet? was axed.
The Geordie pals, who had completed a series of the primetime show, were given the push by execs at US network ABC after poor ratings.
However, the boys are still desperate to crack the US — and are in talks to remake their Brit hit Saturday Night Takeaway.
A source said: “Ant and Dec are stunned. Usually everything they touch turns to gold so it’s a big shock for them.
“However, they’ve had other offers in and as they see it, it’s all about finding the right vehicle.
“The main thing is that they’re not unknown in America anymore.”
Wanna Bet? saw four celebs bet on whether members of the public could pull off stunts.
It got off to a bumpy start — pulling in just 3.1million viewers after it was scheduled to follow a show with poor ratings and got little publicity. Now Ant and Dec, both 33, want to stick to a familiar format. Our source added: “The boys really want to do Takeaway for America.
“It has had eight successful series in the UK and it would give them a bit of confidence back.”
John Ferriter, of their US talent agency William Morris, added: “Ant and Dec have been warmly received and critically acclaimed for their work.
“They have had meetings about moving on to other series. We anticipate they will be back on the air in 2009.”

I think the liklihood of the lads moving to the USA is very small- they're too into family life, they've got a good career here, so if America isn't a success it'll be annoying for them , but i don't think they'll be too bothered.

It is sad news for the lads but great news for us at least they wont be disappearing to the states
Its really difficult for any new act to make it in America especially from another country maybe they just need the right show to launch them i think SNT would be great to launch them in the US i think the gameshow idea is very unique at the US audience would like it

Shows get axed all the time in America. It's all about ratings. Anyway I'm kinda releived, maybe they will concentrate more on shows for the UK.
